Waterkloof Circumstance ‘Cape Coral’ Rose, South Africa
There is more than one entry from this property in today’s email and that is because it is that good a property. This wine is unashamedly a homage to Provence and why the heck not. Subtle, elegant, savoury and bloody delicious.
Bodegas Borsao Seleccion Rosado, Spain
Another winery with multiple wines in today’s missive but the Seleccion range offers such amazing quality allied to truly outstanding value that they had to be in here. Just a touch more upfront with the fruit but it is still deliciously dry and the texture to the palate is amazing.
Domaine Michel Girard Sancerre, France
It may surprise some people to learn that Sancerre comes in white, red and indeed rose. This is Pinot Noir and because of the rise in popularity for rose wines there is much less red Sancerre which is a shame because I like them but then again when the roses are as good as this then it’s not that big a problem.
Chateau l’Ermitage Costieres de Nimes Rose, France
The more the merrier, this is yet another great wine from Chateau l’Ermitage. A pretty, aromatic nose with ripe raspberry and cranberry flavours on the palate and nicely balanced with just enough bright acidity to counter the tasty, southern fruit. Great with or without food.
Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles Bandol Rose, France
Oooh, this is the one. This is the wine that should get you excited, it will tickle your taste buds till they squeal with delight. It isn’t even pink really, it’s much more of that classic onion skin colour that marks out the really great rose wines. So much effort goes in to this wine and it all starts in the vineyard where sustainable practices are the only practices so the fruit is low yielding but super high quality. Seriously if you want to know what rose wine is capable of then this is the wine for you.
Bodegas Murviedro Fauno Rose, Spain
This is the opposite end of the scale to the Bandol in terms of price but it isn’t anywhere near as far apart in terms of quality. This cheeky little, everyday number has surprised an awful lot of people since its launch last year and rightly so. It is pale and pretty and ridiculously easy drinking.
