Well we’re definitely in to September now and all of that summer holiday nonsense is out of the way and we can all get back to some sense of routine. I think that the best routine you can have is to regularly buy delicious wine, but then I would wouldn’t I. Now when it comes to regularly buying delicious wine there is one country which, for me, towers above the rest and that is France. France is a country that just enchants me, whenever I go there I feel relaxed and over the last three years I have been really quite often, mostly for holiday but even when I go there for work it feels like a holiday anyway.
On holiday there is an obvious need to buy some wine to enjoy whilst relaxing with a good book and if you go in to one of the big French supermarkets during summer then there is a good chance that at some point you will stumble upon a Foire aux Vins. These wine fairs generally appear in the form of a marquee attached to the back of the supermarket and extra huggins of French wine piled in there along with a very healthy number of ludicrous offers. So I thought I’d recreate that back here in Blighty, just without the tent thing. So here is is……
I’ve packed the shop to the rafters with seriously good French wine, we’ve changed all the wines in the wine bar to French wines and we’ve chucked in some delicious deals too. There are French tastings, in fact only last night we had our Guide to the Classics Tasting which was terrific and even with a bad back I managed to over waffle but everyone had plenty to taste and thoroughly enjoyed it. The next one is towards the end of the month, 25th September, and concentrates on the appellations of the South of France, you can book by clicking here
So what about the offers? I hear you cry, well there are stacks of them and too many to try and squeeze on to this page so if you click this link here you will be transported to our website where you can download a brochure with all of them on and a complete list of just what an amazing array of French wines we have. To tease you though here are a few of my favourites.
Honore de Berticot Sauvignon Blanc, Cotes du Duras
This wine has been a firm favourite for 20 years now and this vintage is possibly the best yet. Textbook Sauvignon Blanc that will give even the great wines of Sancerre and Marlborough a run for their money. Harvey says you’d be barking mad to miss this one.

Joseph Mellot Sancerre Rose Le Raibault
Classier than a very classy thing and more beautiful than Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffanys this is just an absolute joy.

Domaine Chante Cigale Chateauneuf du Pape
One of the most well known wines on the planet there are many different levels of quality within this appellation. This domaine is at the forefront of quality wine making and as such this wine tastes like it should, luxuriously soft with dense bramble fruits, a lick of oak and a nice twist of spice at the finish.

Domaine Terres Georges Megamix
The wines of Domaine Terres Georges
Our love affair with this property started 15 years ago and they are now our best selling wines. That’s no surprise as the wines that Anne-Marie & Roland Coustal craft are as charming as they are. In the last few years a rose and a white wine have joined the ranks and the quality improves to ever more amazing levels with every passing vintage. Whilst the Quintessence Minervois gets all the plaudits in the French press it is the humble ‘et Cetera’ which is not just my favourite wine from this property but my favourite wine in the shop. Rustic, charming and humble it is a wine which never fails to make me smile.
